Key features

  • It is a corded 5” sander suitable for small domestic projects
  • You can control the operation speed with a dial – an option that proves to be useful depending on the project at hand.
  • Compact machine that weighs just about 6.5 lbs
  • Comes with a manufacturer’s warranty for a period of one year as well as a money back guarantee if returned within 30 days.

Performance

Unlike most sanders or other power tools, this machine does not kick start vigorously when switched on. It gets into motion very smoothly and does not jerk when the power supply starts.

Also, the vibration level is very low compared to counterparts and can be used with one hand if required. However, since it is fashioned for a double-handed grip, using both hands to hold the machine makes using it even more comfortable and easier.

Dust collection unit

Most sanders in this category have a problem with dust collection. You need to have a vacuum cleaner or some other cleaning device in your workshop to ensure the entire place does not get coated in sawdust.

But this compact sander completely does away with that problem. It comes with a screw-on canister for dust collection as you sand down your handiworks. Also, it has an alert system that lets you know when you need to empty the container.

Microfilter

The sander comes with one of the finest microfilters among any similar apparatus you may ever use. It’s so minute that it can detect and trap particles with diameters as tiny as just ½ a micron.

Hook and loop disc attachment

This is gradually becoming a common feature in most sanders available in the market. This particular sander however has 35,000 hooks with extra long life that ensure a powerful hold on the disc while working.

Variable speed

This feature lets you control with the help of a dial the rotation speed of the sanding disc. It proves to be particularly useful when you are working on those tiny corners and awkward areas.

You can lower the speed to ensure that you have uniformly sanded the surface without causing any damage to the material.

Motor quality

The motor fitted in this machine is of a superior quality – a fact that is proven by the very low heat generation. Most power tools including sanders heat up after being in use for some time and the disc’s rotation speed slows down.

But that is not the case with the Bosch ROS20VSK, which you will see, continues to work without hitches for long periods.

Drawbacks

With its rave reviews, this tool has very few negatives to write about. However, there are still some things that can be improved.

  • The dust canister’s capacity is very low. It gets full after five minutes of continuous use and it is inconvenient to keep emptying repeatedly while working on a major project. Also, it’s tough to screw on the canister once dust particles settle in the grooves thus allowing dust particles to escape.
  • The small orbit of the sander makes it inconvenient for use when working on large surfaces.
